What is the pelvic floor?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles and connective tissues at the base of your pelvis. You can think of it like a supportive hammock or trampoline that helps hold your bladder, bowel, and (for some people) uterus in place.

These muscles play an important role in everyday activities like going to the bathroom, breathing, posture, movement, and sexual health. They also work closely with your core, hips, and diaphragm to support your body during both rest and activity.

Just like any other part of the body, the pelvic floor can become tight, weak, tired, or uncoordinated — and with the right support, education, and care, it can learn to feel safer, stronger, and more balanced again.

Anyone with a body can benefit from pelvic floor therapy. Pelvic floor support isn’t just for one stage of life or one type of concern — it’s for both adults and children.

If something feels uncomfortable, confusing, challenging, or simply “not quite right,” that alone is a good enough reason to reach out. Pelvic floor therapy is designed to meet you (or your child) where you are, with curiosity, compassion, and respect.

Pelvic floor therapy can support a wide range of concerns, including but not limited to:

  • Bladder concerns such as leaking, urgency, frequency, or difficulty emptying
  • Bowel concerns including constipation, accidents, or pain with bowel movements
  • Pelvic, hip, low back, or abdominal pain
  • Pain with sitting, movement, or daily activities
  • Potty training challenges
  • Bedwetting or daytime accidents
  • Core weakness or coordination challenges
  • Breathing or posture difficulties
  • Recovery after birth, surgery, or injury
  • Body awareness or sensory differences related to pelvic health

If you’re unsure whether pelvic floor therapy is the right fit, you don’t need to have everything figured out before scheduling. Questions are always welcome.

Your evaluation is a gentle, collaborative, and supportive experience.

We’ll begin with a conversation about your concerns, goals, daily routines, and what feels most important to you or your child. Education is woven throughout so you understand what’s happening in your body and why.
Any physical assessment is clearly explained beforehand and only completed with consent. Sessions move at a pace that feels safe and respectful.

  • For children: evaluations are play-based, age-appropriate, and caregiver-inclusive.
  • For adults: sessions focus on comfort, education, movement, breathing, and hands-on support when appropriate.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach — you are always in control of your care.

Yes — pelvic floor therapy services are offered for both adults and children.

Care is thoughtfully tailored to each individual. For children, therapy often looks like movement, play, and simple strategies that fit naturally into daily routines. For adults,
sessions may include education, movement, breathing, body awareness, and practical tools you can use outside of therapy.

No matter your age, the goal is the same: to help the body feel more comfortable, confident, and connected.
