Read on to learn more about our approach to Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)!
Instrumental Assessment
FEES is used to help diagnose and initiate treatment for swallowing disorders. A flexible camera is passed through the left or right nostril and into the throat as you eat and drink. This allows our endoscopists to visualize the swallowing mechanism and make an individualized treatment plan for you.
Candidates for Fees
If you have experienced any of the following, FEES may be right for you:
- Choking on food or liquid
- Stroke or neurodegenerative disease
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Head and neck cancer, radiation exposure
Flexible Locations
Experience our expert evaluation at our clinic or in the comfort of your own home! Our FEES is portable and can be administered in the setting that is right for you or your loved one.
Collaborative Approach
Once the FEES is completed, the endoscopist will review your images with you in real time. We will write up a report that will be available on your portal and we can send this to other professionals upon request.
Individualized Treatment Plans
What happens after the FEES? Once the FEES is completed and the report is available, the SLP will tailor a treatment plan to your needs. This could include, but is not limited to, dysphagia exercises, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, diet modifications, or positioning modifications.
If you or your loved one is experiencing difficulty swallowing, MTC’s FEES can help identify the underlying cause to initiate treatment for safer and more independent mealtimes.
Contact Metro Therapy Center today to schedule an appointment or learn more about how we can support you. Let us guide you or your loved ones toward enjoyable and nourishing mealtime experiences.
Please note that regular attendance is crucial for continuity of care. Effective September 16, 2024, cancellations and no-shows will incur fees. Fees apply even for late arrivals or illness-related cancellations unless the session is rescheduled within 6 business days. Please ensure you review these policies.
